Antonin Artaud; one of the first to join the surrealist movement. Known, between the two wars, as an actor, poet and essayist. Although Les Cenci on 1935 was a failure; his theories in The Theater and Its Double --having as an objective the liberation of emotions that are usually repressed in the subconscious of humans-- had a great influence on dramatists like Albert Camus and Jean Genet and film directors like Jerzy Grotowski, Julian Beck and others. He was declared insane on 1937 and spend almost all of his remaining life in psychiatric asylums.
